Arrest of Libyan Businessman Abdelrahman Qaja During His Arrival for Umrah

Saudi authorities have arrested Libyan businessman Abdelrahman Qaja upon his arrival in Saudi Arabia to perform the Umrah pilgrimage. His arrest was based on charges related to funding the Muslim Brotherhood and the Ennahda Party.

Recently, there has been a rise in the frequency of arrests targeting pilgrims by Saudi authorities. Dr. Abdullah Faisal Al-Ahdal and Fahd Ramadan were arrested last November and remain in arbitrary detention, along with many others who were detained while performing Hajj or Umrah.

Monitor of Hajj and Umrah Violations (MHUV) strongly condemns and denounces the arrest of Abdelrahman Qaja and calls for his immediate release. It also calls on the Saudi authorities to stop the political exploitation of the Two Holy Mosques by turning them into traps for arresting dissidents and critics of its policies.
